Pine Island Chamber of Commerce recognizes a Citizen of the Year who has gone above and beyond to serve the Pine Island community, and an outstanding young person to recognize. Pine Island has chosen Floyd Morgiewicz and Frankie Zottola who truly embodies the Pine Island spirit.
Floyd Morgiewicz
Born with black dirt under his nails, Floyd has worked alongside his family on their farm. He has continued to make agriculture and hard work an important part of his life’s work at the Jados farm, maintaining a lifelong connection to the land he calls home.
Floyd joined the Pine Island Fire Department in 1983, and has honorably served his community ever since, dedicating countless hours to keeping our families safe as well as contributing to holiday celebrations that bring joy to our hamlet. Floyd has served as President of the Fire Department for nearly thirty years as well as almost eighteen years as Fire Commissioner and chairman of the board for the past five. His commitment to the department and the community it serves has been unwavering.
Floyd’s service to his community is not limited to the fire department. He has coached and mentored our local youth at Warwick Little League and soccer. His involvement reflects the same commitment to community he has demonstrated throughout his life. He is someone his neighbors, friends and family can count on. Family has always been important to Floyd. He’s been a devoted son to his mother, Rita, while also building his own wonderful family life. Floyd raised his children and now has the joy of being a grandfather. He has spent much of his life giving time to others, but his favorite thing to do now is spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Floyd’s life is a remarkable example of what it means to be a community member who consistently gives back. His lifelong dedication, selfless service, leadership, generosity, and commitment to the safety and well-being of our community have earned him this honor. Our heartfelt congratulations to Floyd and his family!
